Ballet Examinations

The examination syllabi taught at the Charlesworth Walsh Dance Centre is the Cecchetti Method. This method is recognised worldwide. The Cecchetti method was established over many decades. Maestro Enrico Cecchetti worked with all the famous choreographers including Fokine and Pepita, who created Les Sylphides and Sleeping Beauty.

During the junior years of training we feel the love of dance is the most important aspect of nurture, aligned with a solid foundation in technique. Internal examinations are offered and most parents take this opportunity to introduce their children into the examination system.

A detailed report for a fully qualified examiner is issued with a grading. Results should not be discussed between mothers or students as they are private and for the improvement of the student only. Examinations are not a competition and comparison of results could adversely affect a student’s self-esteem and motivation.

The pre-primary, primary and grade syllabi will be covered with technical foundation established. Students wishing to take the Cecchetti External Grade Examinations will be required to take 2 ballet classes a week minimum. All students may take up this opportunity to improve technique and overall development of dance in general, regardless of whether the examinations are their aim or not.

Grooming for examinations must be as follows:

  • Hair must be in a bun with no fringes and gel to smooth the sides
  • A well fitting Cecchetti leotard must be worn
  • New or excellent condition ballet tights must be worn
  • Cleaned pink ballet shoes must be worn
  • A cross-over may be permitted if the examiner feels the weather warrants wearing one

Late entries cannot be accepted. The examinations are not compulsory but students are encouraged to attend
